As a female athlete myself, I have always known the potential for female athletes and coaches to grow women's sports and it has grown exponentially in the past few years. However, while many know about the exponential gap between mens and women’s sports at a professional level, a large number of people turn a blind eye towards the growing difference in mens and women's high school sports. Unless personally connected with women's sports at a high school level, many spectators will say women's sports are “slow” or “not as competitive”; however, for those who take the time to watch or spend a small amount of time around women's sports, you will hear otherwise. Female athletes bring many advantages and different levels of competition to sports in general. Here in North Alabama, we are blessed as a community to have many successful and powerful women's teams across our region. Female and male athletes face different challenges in sports. Young female athletes dream of playing in a packed stadium and grow up with the dreams of playing at the next level; however, once they reach the high school level, they understand that, as women, we must fight for attendance and support. With Talk Women’s Sports, the all women ran social media platform, we highlight the small victories in the fight we all have to face. With interviews of coaches and players, the Alabama community will have the opportunity to receive information on female athletes, coaches, and women's sports in the area. As female athletes, we must come together to not only compete alongside each other, but to stand beside each other as we achieve our goals.
